Open Graph Checker

See how your link will look when it's shared on Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, or X (Twitter). Enter a URL and the checker reads its Open Graph meta tags and tests the og:image — free, instant, no login required.

Why check Open Graph tags before you share

When a link lands on Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, or X, the platform fetches the page and builds a preview card from its Open Graph meta tags — image, title, description. If the tags are wrong or missing, the link goes out bare or with text pulled from the wrong place, and click-through drops off a cliff. Worse, platforms cache the first preview they see, so a broken card tends to stick around. This checker shows you the preview before anyone else sees it — while a fix is still cheap.

The og:image test: dimensions, ratio, and weight

The image makes or breaks the card, so the checker goes beyond "is there an og:image" and tests the file itself: pixel dimensions (200×200 px is the hard minimum, 1200×630 px the recommended size), aspect ratio (1.91:1 — anything far off gets cropped), and file weight (under 5 MB in general, and under ~600 kB if WhatsApp matters to you, because it silently drops heavier images). It also flags images served over http:// or referenced with a relative path. Stick to JPG or PNG for the widest support.

Fetch the page as Facebook, WhatsApp, X, or Google

Some sites serve different HTML to different visitors — a consent wall for browsers, clean HTML for crawlers, or the other way round. The dropdown lets you fetch the page with the user-agent of each platform's bot (or as a regular browser), so you see exactly what Facebook's crawler sees, not what your browser sees. Handy for catching a firewall or bot-blocker that quietly serves social crawlers an error page.

An Open Graph debugger without the login wall

Facebook's official Sharing Debugger is the reference tool — but it sits behind a Facebook login, and LinkedIn's Post Inspector wants an account too. For the everyday question "what will this link look like?", pasting a URL here answers it in one step: previews for four platforms, every og:* and twitter:* tag found, and concrete recommendations. You'll still need the official debuggers for one thing — flushing a cached preview: on Facebook use "Scrape Again", on LinkedIn re-run the Post Inspector, and for WhatsApp share the URL with a throwaway parameter like ?v=2.

What happens to the URL you enter

This is the one HandyTray tool that can't run entirely in your browser: browsers block cross-site reads, and the whole point is fetching your page the way a crawler does. So our server fetches the URL once, extracts the meta tags, and hands them straight back — the address is never logged or stored, and nothing else about you travels with it.

Open Graph and link preview FAQ

og:image sizes, cached previews, Twitter Cards, and the tools that don't need a login.

What are Open Graph meta tags?

Open Graph is a set of meta tags in a page's

— og:title, og:description, og:image, and friends — that social networks like Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and X read to build the preview card for a shared link. If the tags are missing or broken, the link shows up bare: no image, a clipped title, or text pulled from the wrong place.

Why doesn't my link show an image when I share it?

The usual suspects: the og:image tag is missing, the image is too small (200×200 px is the minimum), too heavy, served over http:// instead of https://, or given as a relative path instead of an absolute URL. Run the link through the checker above — the recommendations will tell you exactly what to fix.

What size should an og:image be?

The sweet spot is 1200×630 px with a 1.91:1 aspect ratio, saved as JPG or PNG. The minimum is 200×200 px. Keep the file under 5 MB — and well under ~600 kB if you care about WhatsApp, which quietly skips heavier images.

How do I refresh a preview that Facebook or WhatsApp has cached?

Social networks cache link previews aggressively. On Facebook, open the official Sharing Debugger and hit "Scrape Again". LinkedIn has the Post Inspector for the same job. WhatsApp offers no refresh at all — the workaround is sharing the URL with an extra parameter, like ?v=2, so it counts as a new link.

Do I need to log in, like with Facebook's Sharing Debugger?

No. Facebook's own debugger requires a Facebook account and a login before it shows you anything; LinkedIn's Post Inspector wants you signed in too. Here you paste a URL and get the previews, the tags, and the og:image check straight away.

What is the difference between Open Graph and Twitter Cards?

Twitter Cards are X's own flavor of the same idea, driven by twitter:* tags. X falls back to Open Graph tags when they're absent, but without twitter:card set to "summary_large_image" it may render only a small thumbnail. The checker reads both families, so you see the whole picture.

Is the URL I enter stored anywhere?

No. Checking a page works like the social networks' own crawlers do: our server fetches the URL once, extracts the meta tags, and returns them to your browser. The address isn't logged, stored, or passed to anyone else.
